PVG (Protection of Vulnerable Groups)
Introduction
When recruiting new members of staff or volunteers all clubs must ensure that any person working
with children and/or protected adults has been recruited in line with Netball Scotland’s Safe
Recruitment Process.
All clubs have a legal duty under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007 to ensure
that any person(s) whose services they have engaged to carry out a regulated role (paid or unpaid)
with children and/or protected adults is not barred from working with either or both of these groups.
1. All our clubs need to ensure that all volunteers in regulated roles i.e. coaches, team managers,
helpers etc have PVG BEFORE starting in role
2. PVG is renewed after 5 years
3. Board, Committee and Trustees – this is the biggest change for NS as all board and committee
members will require to have a PVG, even though they have no direct contact with children or
protected adults as Holding a Position of Responsibility Is a Regulated Role Activity Board
members, Committee members and Charity Trustees guidance
